Increasing the Global Supply of Industrial Fresh Water

A partnership between Deep Science Ventures and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners

Deep Science Ventures (DSV) and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) have formed a partnership to design and launch innovative high-growth start-ups to build resiliency into the global supply of industrial fresh water through the creation of high-impact ventures.

We are currently recruiting people with specialist domain knowledge to co-found water-related companies focused on solving problems in the global supply of water to industry.

We bring together entrepreneurial scientists, academic advisors and investors, to design and build new companies, leveraging Deep Science Ventures’ unique venture creation process: Identifying critical commercial and technical approaches, around which high growth ventures and teams can be built. No prior IP or “idea” is required. Candidates on this programme will have at least 12-months to identify the optimal solutions for a given area and create a venture to deliver them. You will be supported in this process by the DSV team and world-leading partners.

Avoiding Water Scarcity in Industry

Problem to solve

Water represents a key input for industry, whether for production purposes or as an ingredient. Today it represents up to 24% of total annual water demand, second to Agriculture. With a growing global population, the demand for water is increasing while water availability is strained by pollution and climate change. This is also the case for industry, essential for modern life, where two thirds of businesses already face substantial risk from water scarcity.

Reason to solve

There are a variety of different technologies, both established and under development, that may be able to restore the reliability of groundwater and reservoirs, e.g. directed precipitation capture or minimizing/monitoring evaporation. Without these solutions, we face a trade-off between industrial and residential water use, with longer-term implications for economic growth.

Although water covers 70% of our planet, freshwater for human use – from agriculture, to manufacturing to personal use - only accounts for 1%. With climate change exacerbating water scarcity in many parts of the world we have a responsibility to think innovatively about how we respond to this issue.  The launch of this project reflects our ongoing commitment to water stewardship, and our ambition to build a more water secure world, both for our business, our industry, and the communities we work alongside.
