pioneer geo-mimetic direct air capture

THROUGH VENTURE.

If the world hopes to keep temperatures close to a 1.5°C warming scenario by 2100, 100s of billions of tons of carbon dioxide must be removed from the air. Rapidly deploying carbon removal (aka ‘negative emissions technologies’) requires rock-bottom removal costs and permanent CO2 storage. Nature-based solutions like reforestation and soil management are low-cost, but can struggle with permanence, measurability, and scalability. Engineered solutions can overcome these challenges but can also be insanely expensive. To achieve rapid deployment, cost reductions are crucial.

 

At DSV, we’re exploring novel methods to slash the cost of engineered negative emissions tech, particularly direct air carbon capture, by expediting mineral carbonation and letting nature do the work for us. Our mission: design and deploy the world’s cheapest gigaton-scale solution by focusing on techno-economic feasibility at every step of the design process. Join our team and create a company that will turn emissions upside down, prevent climate catastrophes, and solve the world’s biggest challenge!

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Best candidates will have hands-on electrochemistry experience. This could include electrolytic cell design, electrocatalysis, water electrolysis for hydrogen production, flow batteries, fuel cells, electrochemical corrosion, etc. 

We’re assembling an interdisciplinary founding team with expertise across many disciplines. If you have expertise in electrochemistry and any of the fields below, we would love to hear from you. 

● Engineering – chemical, industrial, process, reaction, combustion 

● Numerical modeling – process design, simulation, reaction kinetics, optimization

● Mining – operations, geology, geochemistry

Demonstrated fluency in heat and mass transfer, gas-liquid reactions and kinetics are strongly desired. Experience scaling chemical production is a plus!

 

OUR OFFER

Taking a Founder role at DSV is a fantastic opportunity to develop concepts for, and launch, your own startup. Working with us, you’ll have access to the systems and environment to guide your thinking. We’ll provide you with a salary whilst you start your own company, and moreover, will provide support while you build a founding team, find early data to land your first customers and to secure investors.

It’s a full time role working across market analysis, science and venture creation at DSV before incorporating your own start-up within 6 months (give or take a couple of months).

DSV will then provide pre-seed investment and help bring on board additional investors to enable your startup to conduct further research and proof-of-principle work with access to Industry through our partnership with the OGTC.

Compared to other “Entrepreneur in Residence”- type programmes, DSV is friendly to individuals with no previous founder experience, and joining DSV comes with a commitment from us to support your company to make a real impact in the market. No prior idea or IP required.

Ryan: A materials scientist dedicated to fighting climate change with technology at the intersection of innovation and economics. Ryan completed his PhD with a focus on low-carbon cement before going on to write about costs and opportunities in carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) for BloombergNEF. Since joining DSV, Ryan has explored negative emissions technologies, their market opportunities, and is now building a founding team to drastically reduce the cost of removing CO2 from the air.
